چکیده

The results obtained in Paper I are used to study possible relationships between the truncation radius of stellar discs in the NIR and structural parameters of the galaxies. The NIR truncation radius is larger for brighter galaxies, being proportional to Vc m with c ≈ 3/2, and with Vm being the asymptotic rotation velocity at large radii (when the rotation curve becomes flat), and is lower for higher wavelengths. When it is normalized to the scalelength, the truncation is an increasing function of the central surface brightness and is lower for late type galaxies, although these correlations are weaker. These relations are in agreement with the scenario of magnetically driven truncations.

ساخت و تحلیل فهرست ستارهای از کهکشان M33

In this study, 1200 images and catalogues of M33 spiral galaxy taken by WFCAM camera at UKIRT telescope in J, H and K bands. Cross correlation methods were employed to identify stars in overlapping regions from among images taken in different dates. Careful astrometric and photometric analysis was made to calibrate stellar positions and magnitudes using their 2MASS near infra red survey. The fi...

Stellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups

It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...

A near-infrared study of IRAS-selected T Tauri stars in Chamaeleon II

We use near-infrared photometry of objects detected by IRAS to confirm four new T Tauri stars in Chamaeleon II. Observations of these sources generally agree with the T Tauri signatures of locus in the near-infrared color-color diagram, midinfrared spectral index, and IRAS far-infrared colors. Infrared properties of these stars are similar to optically selected T Tauri stars in Cha II, but are ...

Nuclear star formation in the hot - spot galaxy NGC 2903

We present high-resolution near-infrared imaging obtained using adaptive optics and HST/NICMOS, and ground-based spectroscopy of the hot-spot galaxy NGC 2903. Our near-infrared resolution imaging enables us to resolve the infrared hot spots into individual young stellar clusters or groups of these. The spatial distribution of the stellar clusters is not coincident with that of the bright H ii r...

An unbiased study of debris discs around A-type stars with Herschel

The Herschel DEBRIS (Disc Emission via a Bias-free Reconnaissance in the Infrared/Submillimetre) survey brings us a unique perspective on the study of debris discs around main-sequence A-type stars. Bias-free by design, the survey offers a remarkable data set with which to investigate the cold disc properties. The statistical analysis of the 100 and 160μm data for 86 main-sequence A stars yield...
